Highlights of Diwali 2019
The event brought the whole community together with children and families dressed in their festive clothes. The venue at the HCA could not have been more perfect for this grand occasion.
The program theme was 'Traveling across South Asia'. Railways, being an integral part of South Asia brought back nostalgic memories and the venue was decorated with non-traditional interactive displays and cultural props that reflected the theme.
Pictures of all events were curated and shown to the audience as a slideshow to show SACH in 3 minutes. The video was called 'The Breathless Team'. Click here to watch 'The Breathless Team' in action!
Our State Rep. Carolyn Dykema was the Chief guest and kick started the program by lighting the lamp, soon after the National Anthem sung by one of our high schoolers. There was a diverse range of participants and attendees. High schoolers were an integral part of helping and planning. Alex Tannenbaum, a very talented high school freshman was the expert behind the technical audio and video equipment who meticulously planned and conducted the whole show successfully. Neha Kunam, another notable mention, also a high school freshman, helped us out with the decor.
The program ranged from signature classical dance pieces to folk from different regions to modern fusion. Shahidul Mannan and his wife Nasiba, read poetry (translated from Bengali) from a famous poet, writer and artist from Bengal (Rabindranath Tagore).
A local band played fusion Pakistani and Qawwali music. The emcee was an excellent father and son duo from Hopkinton who made it a really fun night by mixing in a lot of South Asian trivia giving the audience a rich cultural experience.
The year's fundraising gave us the opportunity to announce a scholarship to support and encourage female students from Hopkinton High school who intent to pursue education and career in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.
The night ended with a delicious dinner and forging great community connections.
